On Friday and Saturday, the Spanish party Vox is bringing together around ten European far-right leaders in Madrid for the first summit of “Patriots for Europe” (Patriots).

This party was founded by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who will be the central figure at the event alongside France’s Marine Le Pen, Italy’s Matteo Salvini, and Spain’s Santiago Abascal.

The shadow of U.S. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk looms over this summit, which has been convened under the slogan “Make Europe Great Again” (MEGA), echoing the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan used by the Republican leader.

In fact, Musk recently endorsed the summit with a brief message posted on X, the social network he owns: “People of Europe: Join the MEGA Movement. Make Europe Great Again.”

On Friday, European far-right leaders will hold a private meeting, but the main event of the program will take place on Saturday, featuring speeches by Abascal, Orbán, Le Pen, Salvini, and Geert Wilders.

The meeting aims to outline the Patriots’ strategy for the coming months in an international context shaped by uncertainty, following Trump’s recent statements on issues such as imposing tariffs, transforming Gaza into a resort, and expelling migrants.

Patriots, which has become the third-largest force in the European Parliament, seeks to establish itself as an alternative to conservatives and socialists while opposing what it considers a “policy of open doors to mass immigration” in Europe.

Also attending the meeting will be Portugal’s André Ventura, Poland’s Krzysztof Bosak, the Czech Republic’s Petr Macinka, Greece’s Afroditi Latinopoulou, and Estonia’s Martin Helme. The summit, which will take place at a hotel on the outskirts of Madrid, will be attended by around 2,000 people.
